The Coastal Elites are a band of semi-reformed vagrants from Malmö. They sing songs trying to understand what’s going on, a task that is as hopeless as it is irresistible.
In their upcoming album “Folks” our chaotic times are treated as one big, dysfunctional family. Stories about brothers that shouldn’t be allowed to vote, sisters who just will not rise from bed, acerbic parental feuds, busybody uncles, lost cousins and family graves.
The live shows of The Coastal Elites are something like a Thelonious Monk trio being hassled by Lucinda Williams. Jazz improvisation stealing away from neat three minute stories.
Sometimes it collapses, like life. And sometimes it’s as death-defying as a smoke in a fast car running from helicopters and creditors.
Their first release as The Coastal Elites is called Ill gotten gains and will be out on Spotify October 7th, but is available now on their page
